Investigation to determine the volumetric capacity of the waterways
GCS was contracted by the BCC to conduct a study to establish the volume of water and silt within 2 major waterways on the course. Using bathymetry, GCS surveyed the waterways using sonar technology, collecting information on the depth at various waypoints in the waterways. The depth data gathered was then processed in a GIS environment to generate the waterway floor in a 3 dimensional environment.
Using GIS based simulations, the volumes were calculated with respect to depth intervals which led to the development of a gauging plate that could be installed on the dam wall. The gauging plate relates the volume of the dam with the depth from capacity.
In addition to the segmented volumes, the amount of siltation was calculated for each waterway, which is based on the individual waterway design parameters. The integration of all components of the project played a vital role in the BCC being named the top club in the 2017 John Collier Good Governance and Environmental Compliance Survey.
